Waxing To Minimalize Body Hair

If there is one despised feature women everywhere can bond over, it probably is body hair. Except for the hair on their heads, many women are eager to rid themselves of excess body hair.

Hair removal starts as a strange and deliberate task for teenagers and becomes increasingly automatic upon entering womanhood. Nowadays, the list of devices for hair removal is endless, ranging from electric and manual razors to using chemical depilatories such as Nair cream.

Out of all these mechanisms, waxing is the most effective way to remove unwanted body hair. This is because waxing eliminates hair by epilation, a process which removes hair from beneath the surface of the skin. Therefore, the hair takes longer to grow back. Waxing is a popular choice because, if it is repeatedly performed in the same area over prolonged periods of time, it reduces the quantity of hair growing back.

Regardless of what area you choose to wax, waxing follows a fairly standard procedure. First, the wax is distributed on the region of unwanted hair, followed by the placement of a cotton strip on the waxed area. After holding it down for about 15 seconds, the strip is quickly removed, yanking the unwanted hair along with it.

Shaving and creams, such as Nair, use a process called depilation, which is less effective because it removes hair from the skin's surface. It does not have long-lasting results and often can thicken hair. This is why shaving must be done frequently, sometimes on a daily basis.

Waxing can be less time consuming and, over a long term, it will not need to be frequently done. Waxing also leaves skin smoother than shaving because the hair is removed from underneath the skin's surface. Therefore, there is no stubble.

What to expect when Waxing

Waxing at the Spa

When it comes to waxing, there are a few things you should be prepared for. It is important to make sure you have about a quarter-inch of hair on the body part you want waxed so hair can effectively pulled out. Hot resin wax is used more extensively than cold wax in spas and salons. Waxing should not be performed if you use Retin-A.

When you are finished waxing, it is important to stay out of the sun for at least 24 hours. At the spa, you can wax anything: underarms, legs, bikini line, face, eyebrow, arms and even your entire body. The most popular waxing procedures today are the eyebrow wax and the bikini wax.

The eyebrow wax: This is a quick waxing procedure to eliminate stray hairs on the eyebrow region. Although tweezing is a finer technique for removing one hair at a time, waxing is good for removing more hair with each sweep. Hair is removed against its growth. By waxing the eyebrows, the shape and arch of the eyebrow is defined to fit your personal image. Eyebrow waxing can do wonders for framing your face. Your eyes will appear larger, opening up your face.

The bikini wax: This is a treatment requiring some bravery, especially on the first visit. Those of you frustrated with fiddling with razors and creams may be intrigued by the concept of the bikini wax. Bikini waxes can be a heavenly alternative to shaving, eliminating those awful, irritated red bumps on the bikini line. The procedure does not take long, usually lasting about 10 to 15 minutes.

Make sure you choose a comfortable spa and a professional with whom you will feel at ease. If you are already getting your eyebrows waxed by someone, you might feel more comfortable sticking with the same individual. In this procedure, the pain is intense, especially on the first time. To ease the pain, close your eyes, relax your muscles and take a long, deep breath before each yank. For your first bikini wax, it is probably a good idea to stay away from the Brazilian wax, which leaves the entire pubic region bare of all hair. Another tip to bear the pain is to get a bikini wax right after your menstrual period, when you have a higher tolerance for pain.

Before you get scared off, remember this pain can be worthwhile. Waxing damages the tiny hair follicles, so subsequent waxings will hurt less and hair growth will eventually diminish. Results last for three to five weeks, which makes other hair removal methods pale in comparison.

Waxing at Home

Waxing at home can be a nice alternative to professional waxing, but it requires patience and practice. Just as with spas, you can wax any part of your body including your legs, bikini line, eyebrows and underarms. Eyebrow waxing requires precise technique and is close to the eye, so it can be riskier to do at home and sometimes is best left to the professionals.

You can purchase a professional waxing kit at any drugstore. The waxing kit includes a jar or tub of wax which can be warmed up using boiling water or a microwave. After you warm the wax to the optimum temperature, you can use a spatula to apply the wax. Using a lot of wax is unnecessary, and it will be ineffective if you let the wax dry before yanking hairs out with the cloth pad. It is important to read the directions carefully because each kit is different.
